The Shimmering Riverside Palace of Saadat Ali Khan
Perched along the scenic southern bank of the Gomti River, Moti Mahal (The Pearl Palace) stands as an elegant testament to the golden age of Awadh royal riverfront architecture. Built by Nawab Saadat Ali Khan between 1798 and 1814, it formed a vital link in the chain of riverside pleasure palaces connecting Chattar Manzil to Shah Najaf.
Royal Arenas & The Mubarak Manzil
The complex originally comprised three interconnected royal pavilions: Moti Mahal proper, Mubarak Manzil, and Shah Manzil. From the wide stone balconies, Nawabs and their British guests enjoyed spectacles of royal elephant combats and falconry displays on the open sandy banks across the Gomti.
Visiting Moti Mahal Today
Situated near Hazratganj and the KD Singh Babu Stadium, Moti Mahal's lush gardens and surviving colonial-Nawabi arches offer a peaceful historic walk right in the center of modern Lucknow.
