Rooted in ancient folklore, the ghat derives its name from Vedic sage Maharishi Kaundilya, who established his ashram along these fertile banks millennia ago. During the reign of Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula in the late 18th century, the landing was upgraded into a formal royal ghat with broad flights of Lakhori brick steps leading directly into the sacred currents.
Peaceful Boating & Reflections of Heritage
One of the finest experiences at Kudia Ghat is hiring a wooden rowboat in the late afternoon. As your boatman glides across the serene Gomti waters, the distant minarets of Bara Imambara and the Hussainabad Clock Tower peek through leafy trees, offering a perspective reminiscent of 19th-century Awadhi landscape paintings.
Evening Aarti and Sunset Rituals
At dusk, local priests perform a solemn riverside aarti with brass oil lamps, filling the cool evening breeze with the fragrance of incense, marigold petals, and temple bells. It offers a refreshing glimpse into Lucknow's peaceful syncretic traditions.
